Domo Broadcast Systems, wireless transmission solutions…

… “For the moments that matter”

Domo Broadcast Systems, a company born in 2021 from the merger of the two subsidiaries Broadcast Wireless Systems (BWS) and Domo Tactical Communications, is distributed in Italy by Communication Video Engineering (CVE).

DBS’ slogan “For the Moments That Matter” reflects a commitment to providing superior quality goods, services and support for field professionals using broadcast radio links from the transport of audio-visual content to broadcast main galleries.

Domo Broadcast Systems, like CVE, offers world-class customer service, and continuous product innovation.

“Domo Broadcast Systems”, says Stuart Brown Broadcast Head of Broadcast Special Projects, “is a natural choice because it is based on the complementary and joint technologies of BWS and DTC: Broadcast Wireless Systems has always been the supplier of choice for the video/ bespoke, specialty broadcast quality audio, relying on wireless microwave, satellite or fiber links designed to meet the most demanding applications.

The great specialization is also appreciated in the on-board transmission of sports cars or transcontinental remote production.

Domo Tactical Communications, for its part, is super specialized in communications for the areas: military, law enforcement, unmanned aerial photography and ultra-secure connectivity.

The strength of these two companies together is realized in Domo Broadcast System which is today a world-class provider in global wireless connections and a reference in the MPEG4 wireless technology revolution.

It offers low-delay DVB-T transmission systems and high-quality IP solutions specifically designed for motorsport and extreme sports coverage, portable field monitoring and video assistance applications.”

COFDM WIRELESS TRANSMITTERS

Domo Broadcast Systems (DBS) provide a range of wireless camera solutions across all applications.

The “Clip-On” models are able to adapt to most broadcast cameras to realize wireless modes.

Miniature solutions are ideal for drones, wearable or portable cameras.

“InCam” solutions are customized for specific camera models.

The wireless transmitters deliver exceptional picture quality with resolutions from UHD to SD. Many use HEVC 10 bit 4:2:2 encoding and all support H.264 for legacy compatibility. Ultra-low latency modes of operation are available for live sports coverage.

Operators can take advantage of latencies of less than one frame end-to-end.

Additional reach can be achieved by adding one of the booster amps.

The Sapphire family of encoders and decoders is the choice of leading broadcasters around the world looking for an ultra-reliable, high-quality, ultra-low latency method of transmitting broadcast-quality video especially in the live sports arena where ultra-low latency is a must.

Their new Onyx line is set to be a game changer for the industry, bringing latency to its lowest levels ever.

“The strengths of these products”, says Stuart Brown, “are the flexibility that allows you to customize all the parameters and configurations to meet particular shape, size and performance needs, as has already happened for Italian State Broadcaster RAI which wanted them in an integration for use with Hitachi cameras.

In practice, the package, which becomes plug and play in a box or two, replaces the typical solutions based on different units that usually have to be connected individually in a system with cables, antennas and controls (receiver, camera control, transmitter) .

This transforms a normal camera into a wireless system without technical personnel having to supervise the passage and allows the use of wireless systems even in awkward or impossible positions such as on motorcycles, cars, etc.”

“We at CVE”, says Luca Catalano CEO of CVE, Communication Video Engineering, “are eyes and ears for Domo Broadcast Systems on the Italian market which has already greatly appreciated these wireless systems, in fact we boast an excellent diffusion also in national broadcasters.

One of these is currently carrying out further tests on the most recent Domo Broadcast Systems products, confirming the quality already found in the field in very intensive use”.

“About 40/50% of the products sold”, continues Catalano, “consist of special tailor-made and OEM customized systems for heavy use in the field.

The most obvious plus is the quality of radio frequency connections in the live broadcast area for entertainment, sports, news and special events. This is thanks to the use of an HDVC codec that operates up to 4K and is at the heart of all products the. It is a powerful encoding engine that guarantees a delay of less than two frames”.

Mesh

Central to this discussion is the DBS Mesh technology, chosen for point-to-point wireless connections.

Typically in these situations a single transmit point connects to a single receive point to form a single one-way connection.

Instead, in the Mesh system implemented by DBS we can have literally hundreds of radio connections talking to each other, sharing information and operating on a single frequency.

In this way the farthest transmitter that is not able to reach the control room directly is reflected by other nodes in the Mesh network with all the necessary control signals.

At the base of this leading technology in the broadcast field, which packages the signals in a different way, there is the same one that the subsidiary Domo Tactical Communications uses in the military and surveillance fields, with evident levels of unsurpassed and reference reliability.
